Sometimes traveling just stinks. Literally.

We've all encountered a peculiar odor during a trip, whether it's been on an airplane, in a rental car, or even in a hotel room (I know I've been forced into booking a smoking room in an otherwise full hotel). An up-and-coming company called Scentsy is angling to fix that very problem.

Known for its wickless candles and warmers, Scentsy has come up with a collection of fragrance products designed with traveling in mind. They're fun, portable, and—best of all—TSA-friendly. Here are the most travel-worthy of the lot:

Fragrance Foam: One of the newest additions is the 2.7-ounce Fragrance Foam. An alcohol-free, scented hand sanitizer, the Fragrance Foam is packed with emollients so it kills germs without drying out your skin like many other hand sanitizers tend to do. It's available in five scents—none of which actually smell antiseptic-y ($6).

The Scent Pak: Scent Pak pouches are filled with scented beads; you can just stick one in your luggage and let it go to work on its own. A pouch in the Pima Cotton fragrance, for example, can be placed in the suitcase carrying your dirty laundry; the light clean mix of lilies, freesia, and jasmine will leave a fresh-fabric smell—not an overwhelming essence, like you spilled a bottle of perfume inside.

Scentsy Buddy: What's really cool and great for families is that the Scent Paks can also be packaged in a cute and kid-friendly Scentsy Buddy, a plush stuffed animal with a zippered compartment that holds the fragrance pouch. The six animal options include characters like Roarbert the Lion and Ollie the Elephant; kids can visit a special website to register and nickname their new pals and design and download an adoption certificate (Buddy with a Scent Pak $25, individual Scent Pak $7).

Travel Tin: Another super-useful option is the Travel Tin, a flat, pocket-size metal container filled with a gel fragrance; just slide the tin open to release the scent—the more you open it, the more fragrance it emits. The tins fit perfectly in a purse, giving you a conveniently discreet way to clear the air of an unwanted odor ($5 each or six for $25).

Scent Circle: The Scent Circle is essentially the sort of air freshener you'd hang in your car ($3).

Room Spray: This is exactly what it sounds like. At 2.7 ounces ($8), it also complies with TSA regulations.

The company offers a variety of fun, travel-inspired scents like Ocean (aquatic notes deepened with water lilies and ocean breezes) and Beach (papaya and honeydew with a hint of coconut). And the choices aren't all girly: A collection of "manly" fragrances includes Hemingway (rich apples accented with sandalwood, cedar, and hints of spice) and what the company calls its "bad boy" scent, Peligro, with ebony wood, blue cypress, musk, and white pepper.

Scentsy is a direct-selling company, meaning you can only buy its products through independent consultants (Tupperware-party-style).

Scentsy Celebrates Tremendous Growth

Meridian's Scentsy Celebrates Tremendous Growth

Meridian, Idaho -- The sweet smell of success. That's what one Treasure Valley company is experiencing, literally.

Wednesday, Scentsy celebrated that success with a look at their new home. They came a very long way from some pretty humble beginnings.

"We were in debt, had a business that was struggling and needed to swing for the fence," said Scentsy CEO and co-owner Orville Thompson.

Swing for the fence they did. Meridian-based Scentsy, which makes those lights with the cups on top to melt nice-smelling wax, are celebrating their recent move into the top three floors of the new Portico Office Building in Meridian.

"It's unbelievable to be where we are today," said Scentsy President and co-owner Heidi Thompson.

Scentsy started six years ago in a 40-foot ocean container on the Thompson's Meridian sheep farm with an idea the Thompsons bought from two stay-at-home moms in Salt Lake City. And once they decided to use direct selling home parties run by independent sales consultants to market their products, things really took off. "If we can help them make money, then our needs are going to be taken care of as a by-product of that," said Orville Thompson.

Their sales grew by an astonishing 8,000 percent to a little more than $178 million between 2006 and 2009 as a result.

"We just worked really hard. And to look around today at everything, it's really unbelievable," said Heidi.

Customer service call center workers are just some of the 700 people that work in Scentsy's new 60,000 square foot headquarters --  impressive by any measure for a company that started off so small.

"Scentsy even has outpaced our wildest imaginations to an extent and we're just happy to be along for the ride," said Orville Thompson. A ride that saw huge growth even through the recent recession. "When the economy turns, people want to find a happy place. And Scentsy's happy place for hundreds of thousands of people. Whether they're customers, consultants or employees," said Orville Thompson.

In August, Scentsy was named the fastest growing consumer products company in the country by Inc. Magazine. On top of that, they've provided hundreds of jobs. They'll need more workers as the company continues to grow. They told Fox 12 they're hiring new people every week.

Scentsy Spring Sprint coming to a city near you

SCENTSY SPRING SPRINT—COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU!

Many of you joined us for one of Scentsy’s World Tour events in 2009–2010, held in selected cities around North America. Since then we’ve refined the concept and expanded it. The Scentsy Spring Sprint will consist of regional “mobile meetings” to be held in major locations throughout the U.S. so that as many Consultants as possible can attend.
